Sandy Lane Beach

Calm, polished west-coast bay in front of Sandy Lane, good for swimming and snorkelling

This is the bay in front of the Sandy Lane hotel: a long, well-kept curve of golden sand, calm clear water and the hotel's pink umbrellas. Like every beach in Barbados it is public. The way in is a footpath at the southern end of the hotel, beside One Sandy Lane, and hotel security may ask where you are going. There are showers at the entrance and some shade from trees. Beyond that there is little for visitors: no lifeguard, and few chairs or places to eat.

The water is usually gentle, so it suits most swimmers, though there is a slight undertow. Snorkellers will find fish around the nearby reefs. Hawksbill turtles nest on this beach from July to October. Jet ski rides are offered. Bring what you need, or walk to Paynes Bay to the south or Holetown to the north for food.
