Bayshore sits on Bay Street just south of Bridgetown, on the long run of sand that curves round Carlisle Bay between the city and Needham's Point. The water in Carlisle Bay is sheltered and usually calm, and the bay holds several shipwrecks that divers and snorkellers visit. Brownes Beach and the Bay Street Esplanade, with its 1919 bandstand and a car park at each end, are right alongside.

This is a city beach used by Bajans for a swim before or after work, and for beach cricket, football and volleyball. Lifeguards cover the main stretch of Brownes Beach, and beach clubs along the bay rent loungers and sell food and drinks. Early risers may see racehorses from the Garrison taken into the sea for their morning swim, which happens most days at the Pebbles end of the bay, roughly 5.30 to 7am.

Best for

  • Calm swimming
  • Close to town
  • Shipwreck snorkelling
