Welches Beach

Long, quiet south-coast beach for swimming, a short walk from Oistins

Welches Beach
Calm water(usually calm)Sunset today about 17:39Food & drink

Welches is a long stretch of soft, pale sand running for more than half a kilometre along Oistins Bay. Work in recent years widened it and cleared the rocks above and below the waterline, so you can walk straight in. The water is clear and usually gentle, with small to medium waves. Palms and other greenery back the beach, and a few cafés sit beside it. It rarely gets crowded or busy with vendors.

There is no lifeguard, so keep an eye on children and weaker swimmers. On windy days it attracts windsurfers and e-foilers, and boogie boarders stay near the shore. Maxwell Beach is a short walk west along the sand. Oistins is just to the east and makes an easy evening plan: the Friday-night Fish Fry, and before sunset, turtles gathering around the fishing boats at the jetty.
