A wide stretch of white sand in the middle of the St Lawrence Gap, Dover is one of the busiest beaches on the south coast. There's a lifeguard, toilets and showers, a car park, picnic tables and a small row of vendors selling drinks, snacks, beachwear and crafts, plus chairs and umbrellas to hire. Jet skis, boogie boards, Hobie Cats and windsurfers all work this beach, and the Gap's restaurants and bars are a short walk away.

The sea is usually gentle enough for an easy swim, with smaller waves towards the eastern end and a little more lift elsewhere for boogie boarding. It isn't a snorkelling beach, but turtles are often seen surfacing just offshore. Across the road, the Dover playing field hosts cricket and football matches. Watch for manchineel trees at the back of the sand: don't touch the fruit or shelter under them when it rains, as the sap blisters skin.
