Pebbles Beach
Calm Carlisle Bay beach where racehorses from the Garrison take their morning swim

Pebbles is the white-sand beach at the southern end of Carlisle Bay, beside the Hilton and five minutes from Bridgetown. The water is calm, with no strong currents or rocks, which suits children and paddleboarders. There is a lifeguard, toilets, showers, changing rooms, picnic tables, a playground, almond trees for shade, and chairs and umbrellas for hire. Cuz's Fish Stand, known for its fish cutters, is next to the beach, and the Carlisle Bay wrecks are a short swim away.
Come early. Nearly every morning, roughly between 5:30 and 7, grooms lead racehorses down from the Garrison Savannah, the historic racetrack nearby, for a swim. Some roll in the sand first, and others head straight out towards the moored boats. Watch from the shore or wade in, and step back at once if a groom asks you to, because horses can startle. After they leave, the bay is quiet for kayaking and paddleboarding.
