Carlisle Bay
Calm, clear water with six shipwrecks you can snorkel from the beach

Carlisle Bay is the sheltered crescent of sand just south of Bridgetown, from Brandons and Brighton down to Pebbles and Needham's Point. The water is calm, clear and shallow, so it is easy swimming. Most of the island's watersports and dive operators work from here. Along the bay you will find parking, toilets, showers, changing rooms, lifeguards and the Boatyard beach club. The marine park offshore has six wrecks, all marked by buoys. Three are shallow enough to reach by snorkelling: the Berwyn, a French tug scuttled in 1919 in about 7–10 feet of water; a landing barge; and the WWII freighter Cornwallis. The deeper wrecks are for divers. Turtles swim among the wrecks, and you may also see rays, eels and octopus. The water is calmest and clearest in the morning, before the boats arrive.
