Palmetto Bay
Small, quiet cove on the rugged St. Philip coast between Bottom Bay and Kitridge Bay

Palmetto Bay is a little cove on the south-east coast in St. Philip, just north of Bottom Bay and south of Kitridge Bay, near Merricks. This is the island's least developed corner. Wind and heavy Atlantic seas have carved the shore into cliffs and rock shelves, broken here and there by small patches of pale sand, and you are unlikely to meet crowds.
It is on the same open Atlantic stretch as Bottom Bay, where guides advise against swimming because of strong waves, currents and undertow. Expect no lifeguard and bring everything you need. The coast is good for a clifftop walk between coves. Bottom Bay is next door, Crane Beach is a few miles south, and Sunbury Plantation House and Sam Lord's Castle are both nearby.

Good to know
Palmetto Bay: questions
- Is Palmetto Bay good for swimming?
- Our guide rates the sea at Palmetto Bay as usually rough, with strong waves and currents, so it is not a beach we suggest for young children to swim at.
