Bath Beach
The east coast's safest bathing beach: reef-sheltered pools, casuarina shade and weekend picnics.

On the wild Atlantic side of St John, near Codrington College, Bath is the exception: a reef close offshore breaks the swell and leaves calmer pools along the shore, making it one of the few places on the east coast where bathing is reasonably safe. Big casuarina trees shade the long sand and grass, and there's a large car park, toilets, showers, changing rooms, picnic tables and a playground. Vendors sell snacks such as fish cakes.
The reef protects the shore but there can still be currents, so stay in the sheltered water and check the flags; a lifeguard is usually on duty. Weekdays are quiet, while weekends and public holidays bring Bajan families and picnics. Hawksbill turtles nest here, with hatchlings from about July to October. From the beach you can walk north along the old railway line or south towards Conset Bay.
