Kitridge Bay

Rugged cliffs, sea caves and blowholes near the island's eastern tip: for walkers, not swimmers

Kitridge Bay
Rough water(usually rough, with strong waves and currents)

Kitridge Bay is near the far eastern tip of Barbados, between Palmetto Bay and Ragged Point, where the East Point Lighthouse stands. Tall coral cliffs line the shore above echoing sea caves and blowholes that whoosh as the waves come in. Offshore, the long Cobblers Reef breaks the Atlantic surf almost a mile out, and at low tide much of the coral is exposed. Cactus grows on the dry ground above.

This is not a family beach day. There are sharp rocks, steep gullies, heavy waves and unpredictable currents, and no facilities. Come for a cliff-top walk, photographs and the views. At low tide you can search the stony shore for shells. Wear proper shoes, keep well back from cliff edges and blowholes, and go with someone else, since few people come here.

Best for

  • Cliff-top walks
  • Sea caves & blowholes
  • Photography
  • Shell hunting at low tide
