Java Bay sits on a ridge plot within Calijanda, a gated community in St. James that adjoins Royal Westmoreland and Sugar Hill. Designed by London architect Harper Downie in a Balinese style, the villa measures 5,000 sq. ft. and stands on a ¾ acre (30,000 sq. ft.) plot with 180-degree views over the West coast. Holetown, with its restaurants, shops and beaches, is a 5-minute drive away. The open-plan interior mixes Portuguese limestone and granite with handmade Balinese carvings, giving it an elegant Indonesian character. Electric gates open onto a private drive leading to the house, which is arranged over 2 floors and sleeps 8/9 people in comfort, with a maximum occupancy of 8 guests. On the ground floor there is a limestone entrance hall, a formal dining hall seating 10, a media area, a sitting room, a fully fitted kitchen and breakfast area opening onto the pool deck, and a utility room. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and its own courtyard with a day bed and outdoor spa bathing. A second king-size bedroom has a private courtyard garden and outdoor shower, and there is a single bedroom plus 2 shower rooms on this level. A mahogany and glass staircase crosses a bridge to the first floor, where 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom each have en-suite bathrooms and ocean views, bringing the total to 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. Outside, a 15m infinity-edge pool runs along the deck, and a tree house nearby seats 8 for dining or relaxing, adding another spot to enjoy the setting and the coastal views.
