Hemingway House
A 4-bedroom coral stone villa on the water in Mullins, St. Peter, with its own lagoon pool and gardens
About
About this villa
Hemingway House stands in Mullins, St. Peter, set between the quiet of Gibbs Beach and the busier sands of Mullins Beach. The architect Larry Warren designed the house, which was finished in 2017, and it was given a position that takes in Mullins Bay to the north and open ocean directly ahead. The two-storey house is built in coral stone inside and out, with handcrafted sconces, recessed lighting, ceiling fans and air conditioning running throughout. An oceanfront gazebo holds a marble dining table, set among tropical garden planting, and makes a natural spot for meals outside. The lagoon pool sits alongside the gazebo, bordered by a rock backdrop with bougainvillea growing down over it. In the garden hangs an outdoor candelabra, a gift from the architect, suspended from a shady tree. On the ground floor, the living and dining room is designed to work both indoors and out, opening onto a terrace that wraps around with ocean views. A garden room bedroom here looks over the pool and has its own fully marbled en-suite, with a powder room and terrace nearby. The ocean-facing veranda is set up for dining outside, furnished with Kilim pieces and bespoke lighting, and its iron gates fold right back so the space opens completely to the sea and gardens. The kitchen is built for serious cooking, with a Wolf range and oven, a Miele microwave and double oven, an ice maker, a Subzero double door fridge, a dishwasher, a walk-in pantry and David Mellor cutlery. A fully-equipped bar sits next to the kitchen and connects through to the living room, with two wine coolers set to different temperatures, a second ice maker and a butler's sink. A laundry area runs off the kitchen, and staff quarters sit outside the main house. Upstairs holds the remaining three bedrooms. The principal suite takes up the whole upper sea-facing side of the house: a bedroom with hardwood floors and its own en-suite, a walk-in dressing room and a separate study. The bedroom opens onto a private balcony that wraps around with views of the ocean, the bay and the pool, furnished with lounge chairs. Its en-suite has marble floors, a C.P. Hart centre-piece bath built in cherry wood, his-and-hers marble vanities with a free-standing wooden cabinet and an armchair, and a shower fitted with jets and its own seating area. The study sits between the bedroom and the en-suite, and both open directly onto the wrap-around balcony. The second bedroom is next to the principal suite, with its own walk-in dressing room and a balcony over the bay, pool and garden. Its en-suite is a large family bathroom with both shower and bath, his-and-hers vanity and marble flooring. The third bedroom also opens onto the balcony, looking over the pool and garden, and has an en-suite with his-and-hers vanity and a walk-in shower. The first three bedrooms have king-size beds, with bedroom 3 able to convert to two twins, and the fourth bedroom has a queen bed. Every bedroom comes with its own television and Sonos sound. With 4 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in all, the house suits a large family or group of friends wanting a private spot on the water with every modern convenience to hand.
